St. Stephen's Day

The name for St. Stephen's Day ("Tapaninpäivä" in Finnish) comes from the Christian martyr Saint Stephen. In English-speaking countries, this day is known as Boxing Day. On this day, Finnish people often visit relatives or do outdoors activities, such as skiing or skating. In the old days, it was common to go on a sleigh ride on St. Stephen's Day. It is also a national holiday.
