Start-Up Simulator

Project Duration: 2022-2025

Entrepreneurship empowers refugees.

It allows them to take direct control over their lives and overcome barriers they face in the labour market. Refugee entrepreneurs also have a proven record of breaking down barriers between communities and integrating newly arrived groups into society.

Studies find that refugee entrepreneurs are motivated and challenged at the same time as they start and operate their entrepreneurial activities. For example, they are motivated by discovering niche markets, previous entrepreneurial experience, and the availability of family and government support. Challenges include legislative hurdles, management and technical problems, and insufficient financial and other support. Factors both within and outside their control influence the survival of their entrepreneurship.

Startup simulator will reduce these challenges by developing an online, interactive, roleplaying game that simulates a startup business where participants can develop their business plan, set up business infrastructure and run their operation before starting in real life. Accompanying this will be step by step course material educating the participant on legislation and financial support mechanisms. Startup simulator aims to smooth the way for refugee startups to manage expectations better and launch their endeavour with solid research and virtual experience background.
